40 Year Relationship between Viet Nam and Australia: The Way to Comprehensive Partnership

On 26 February 1973, one month after the signing of the Paris Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Viet Nam, the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam and the Commonwealth of Australia officially established diplomatic relations. For the last four decades, the relationship between the two countries have experienced certain vicissitudes due to international historical as well as regional contexts, but the relationship has been continually consolidated and developed, and eventually achieved a peak in September 2009, when the two countries signed the Agreement of the Comprehensive Partnership in Canberra, and then on 30 October 2010 in Hanoi, the two sides signed the Australia - Viet Nam Plan of Action 2010-2013. The article reviews the relationship between Viet Nam and Australia for the last 40 years.
