US New Strategy towards New China

The debate that emerged in late 2010 and early 2011 focused on the changing balance of power between the U.S. and China; the adjustment of U.S. policy and the responses from China and from other regional countries; various scenarios in China-U.S. relations from now to 2012 (when presidential election in the U.S. and the 18th Chinese Communist party Congress take place) and further visions. In the framework of optimistic views and in consistent with smart power theory, the Obama administration for the first time made public the official policy towards China on the eve of Ho Cam Dao’s visit to the U.S. early 2011 in which it was clearly stated that the U.S. policy towards China is linked to the U.S. regional policy, highlighting the cooperative aspects underlining China’s resolve to develop relations in the active, cooperative and comprehensive frame in the 21st century.
