Vatican’s Foreign Policy under the Reign of Pope Benedict XVI

Succeeding Pope John Paul II to the throne since 2005, Pope Benedict XVI appears to be making efforts to improve Vatican’s foreign policy in the direction of adhering to Vatican II Council’s policy. His external relation approaches are probably of flexibility and negotiability. However, it is certain that he will be strictly faithful to Christian tenets and determinedly protect them. Vatican is getting independent from Western and the U.S., towards the Orient, focusing on reform of Catholic Church mechanism in order to prevent secularization and to facilitate evangelization. The author argued that those Vatican’s foreign policy adjustment could bring Vietnam several advantages in the negotiation with Vatican to build up bilateral relations.
