Vietnam and its Non-Permanent Member seat in the 2008-2009 UN Security Council: results and lessons learned

With 183/190 votes in favour, the 62nd General Assembly of the United Nations has elected Vietnam as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2008-2009 term. Vietnam has successfully fulfilled its duties during the term, deserving credibility and trust of the international community. This article analyses successes and lessons learned from the 2008-2009 term in the context that Vietnam is again elected to be a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.
